Artist's Description

Western & Atlanta 4-4-0 American Locomotive "Texas" #12. Built in 1856 by Danforth, Cooke & Company. She participated in the "Great Locomotive Chase" on April 12, 1862 chasing the W&A 4-4-0 "General" after the latter was stolen by Union saboteurs in an attempt to ruin the Confederate rail system during the American Civil War. The "Texas" has been located in the Cyclorama in Atlanta since 1927 but recently was removed and sent to the North Carolina Transportation Museum to be cosmetically restored. She was unveiled at the museum this past Friday, April 28, 2017 and will soon be relocated to the new home of the Cyclorama, the Atlanta History Museum.

About John Black

John Black

Hi, my name is John Black. I grew up in west central Florida. I've been toying with amateur photography for about 15 years, but never got very serious about it until a couple of years ago when I purchased my first Nikon professional digital camera. I travel frequently in my real job, and I am never without my camera just in case I stumble on that once in a lifetime photo opportunity. My photography interests are vast, and include railroading, nature, coastal beaches, winter scenes, animals (wildlife), and much more. I hope you enjoy my photos, take your time viewing them and just maybe you will find something you can't do without.
