Description
Here is a pair of Cummins Diesel sponsored Indy 500 race cars of historical significance.
On the left is the Cummins Diesel Special #29 driven by Freddy Agabasian. The gentleman on the left is Freddy. This is the first time a turbocharged engine was raced in the 500. This car won the coveted pole position in 1952, and was powered by a Cummins Diesel engine.
On the right is the 1986 March. This car was driven to victory in the 1987 Indy 500 by Al Unser Jr. The gentleman on the righrt is Al Unser Jr. Al did not have a ride for the race, so he was given an offer to drive this back-up car if he could find a sponsor. Cummins/Holset jumped on board last minute, and Al took the car to victory lane.
